BYLAWS

ARTICLE I – MEMBERSHIP

SECTION 1      Honorary membership may be granted to anyone who, in the opinion of the members of the Nation, has attained distinction in promoting the understanding and supporting the purposes and objectives of the Y- Princesses.

ARTICLE II – DUTIES OF NATION OFFICERS

SECTION 1     CHIEF:  It shall be the duty of the Chief to preside at all councils of this Nation. The Chief shall conduct the council in the following order:  Prayer to the Great Spirit, roll call of the tribes present, Nation Officer reports, old business, new business, closing prayer to the Great Spirit. The Chief shall also serve as the Nation representative to the Federation and attend, or designate a substitute to attend, all Federation meetings and events.

SECTION 2      MEDICINE MAN:  It shall be the duty of the Medicine Man to fill in for the Chief in the event that the Chief is unavailable and generally to act as the Nation’s second in command.

SECTION 3     WEB KEEPER:  It shall be the duty of the Web Keeper to maintain the Web Site of the Laguna Nation.  He shall be responsible for sending all communications from the Nation to the Tribe Chiefs, and will circulate the news of the Nation between Longhouse Meetings.  He shall receive frequent thanks and praise!

SECTION 4     SACHEM:  It shall be the duty of the Sachem to encourage growth of the Nation and to provide his wisdom to the Chief and the Nation.

ARTICLE III – TRIBAL OFFICERS AND DUTIES

SECTION 1     CHIEF:  Each Tribe shall have a Chief.  Two people can serve as Co-Chiefs if the Tribe decides that is appropriate for the Tribe.  The Chief is to see that there is continuity in meetings.  He conducts portions of the meetings, acts as the leader of the group, and represents the Tribe at Longhouse Meetings.  The Chief presides at the Dad’s Meetings.  He makes assignment sheets and checks to see that jobs are being done.

SECTION 2     ASSISTANT CHIEF:  Tribes may decide that they wish to have an Assistant Chief.  He takes over the duties of the Chief when the Chief is out of the village. 

SECTION 3     WAMPUM BEARER:  The Wampum Bearer is responsible for collecting and keeping safe the Wampum (money) collected from the tribe’s princesses.

SECTION 4     SACHEM:  The Sachem is the Wise Man of the Tribe —the past Chief.  He constantly reminds the Braves of the Y Princess aims and goals.  He leads the Tribe in many service projects.  He helps other Tribes get started.

SECTION 5     LITTLE CHIEF:  She is the daughter of the Chief.  She helps with rituals and helps keep the Little Princesses attentive.

SECTION 6     OTHER TRIBE POSITIONS:  Other tribe positions may be created by the Tribes individually.  These positions are outlined in the YMCA  Princess Resource Notebook.
