UPDATE: TUE, MAY 15TH, 2007
Two Harbors will open Wednesday!
(was closed due to lack of utililties from fire damage)
UPDATE: MON, MAY 14TH, 2007
I spoke with Lee Harrison, a mainland-based director for Camp Emerald Bay. He informed me the camp was unaffected by the fires and all activities are operational, but they have limited power (they have on-site generators). He does not feel we will be impacted in any significant way, and in fact they have other groups coming in this week.
Two Harbors is another story. I have been unable to reach anybody over there, apparently because the phone lines are down. I spoke with the Catalina Flyer people (who operate the boat out of Newport that is taking part of our group to Two Harbors), and they have not been able to reach anyone either. They have heard Two Harbors is without services, but that could change any day. They will call Jacque and/or me as soon as they confirm whether they can get their boats into Two Harbors on Friday.
Obviously, Jacque and I will keep you all informed as soon as we hear anything.

Transportation Options
There are two pre-paid boats arranged by the YMCA to take Laguna Nation members to Camp Emerald Bay. Both are full, but additional space may open up due to cancellations or unused capacity from the other nation that is going to Emerald Bay. If additional spaces become available, they will be offered to people on the "wait list" in the order they signed up with Addison.
Option 1: "Catalina Express" departing San Pedro at 2:30 p.m. and going directly into Emerald Bay. (BOAT IS CURRENTLY FULL)
Option 2: "Catalina Flyer" departing Newport Beach at 12:30 p.m. going into Two Harbors, then shore boats to Emerald Bay. (BOAT IS CURRENTLY FULL)
The third option involves registering for the event "W/O Boat" and arranging for your own transportation to Emerald Bay. By far the easiest option is:
Option 3 (BEST):
Option 4: Take own boat (must arrange in advance for mooring).
Option 5: Arrange for helicopter to Emerald Bay.

UPDATE: THURS, APRIL 26TH, 2007
Laguna Nation Braves,
I called a shore boat service out of Avalon and found out it will be prohibitively expensive to get a shore boat to go to Camp Emerald Bay. Also, they strongly discouraged coming into Avalon at all -- it is so far from Camp Emerald Bay it could take up to two hours to get there from Avalon on a shore boat.
I therefore called the Catalina Express, which has plenty of availability on the 12:30 p.m. boat out of San Pedro into Two Harbors. The return from Two Harbors leaves at 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, and there is availability on that as well. The price is $59 for adults and $45.50 for children. There will be an additional cost for the shore boat to take you to Camp Emerald Bay.
We therefore recommend that you make reservations on the 12:30 p.m. Catalina Express boat from San Pedro into Two Harbors, with the Sunday 2:15 p.m. return. That will enable us to arrange for shore boat transfer at minimum cost.
Please call Catalina Express at (310) 519-1212 to make reservations. You will also need to register with the YMCA for the "Laguna Emerald Bay w/o Boat program, for $138/person, through the registration link at www.lagunanation.org or by calling Addison at 249-6224.
Information regarding shore boat times and cost will follow.

UPDATE: TUES, APRIL 24TH, 2007
Laguna Nation Braves,
The bad news: all of our Nation's allocated space on both boats is full.
The good news: Braves and their Princesses can still attend this event. Here's what you need to know and do.
1. Call Addison at the YMCA (249-6224) and have him put you on the wait list for either Laguna Nation boat to Catalina. If he doesn't answer, you should leave a message so he can put you on the list in the order received.
2. Sign up either online or by phone for the "Laguna Emerald Bay w/o boat" for $138/person ($50 less than the cost with transportation). All this means is that you have to arrange your own transportation on one of the companies that has scheduled service to Catalina (either to Avalon or Two Harbors) on Friday and returning on Sunday, and then from there to and from Emerald Bay via shore boat, water taxi, or charter. I am sure we will have enough people using this option to keep the cost of the island transfers reasonable. In fact, I doubt the total cost will be much more than the $50/person we are charging for our transportation.
PLEASE DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED. GET ON THE WAIT LIST AND SIGN UP FOR THE NON-BOAT OPTION NOW. WE WILL MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO MAKE SURE YOU CAN GET THERE FOR A REASONABLE COST IF YOU REALLY WANT TO GO.
