We stay in cabins. The cabins have bunk beds with mattresses. Air mattresses are not necessary. Each cabin has a bathroom and is heated.

We are responsible for bringing our own housekeeping supplies: sleeping bags, towels, and pillows.

Bring a variety of clothes because March weather could be anything from a pleasant 55 degrees to rain to snow. Also, no matter what the daytime temperature is, it will probably be cold at night. Maybe into the 20s.

The camp provides meals -- 3 squares [or maybe rounds] on Saturday, plus Sunday breakfast.

Bring some snack food for the girls. They will probably get hungry between the mess hall meals. Plan late morning, late afternoon, and before bed snacks for Saturday.

Bring whatever you and your daughter like to drink between meals too. Water. Sodas. Note: All YMCA events are drug and alcohol free

Bring tire chains. Even if you are a 4WD [which is recommended], you need to have chains in the car to get past the CHP checkpoint, pending the weather.

Cell phones have limited, if any, signal at Camp Oaks. Two pay phones are at the camp.

Arrival

Check-in at 4:30pm. Around 5:30 we will order pizza for everybody, and expect to eat around 6pm.  Of course plenty of folks won't arrive until well after 6pm; we're just doing pizza for folks that are present.  We'll order generously, so hopefully there will be an abundance.

Friday Night

Friday around 7:30pm we have 45 minute a ventriloquist show, starring Joe Gandelman and his friends.  This should be a lot of fun.  Depending on how things are going, we may have an impromptu joke contest for the girls; We have lot's of little mardis-gras necklaces for anybody who tells a joke, and a "judging panel" may even award prizes for the funniest joke, best delivery, etc.

Saturday

Camp Oakes has many activities, like archery, rifle range, low ropes, etc.  We will have horse riding available to girls 8 and up, but there will be an extra fee of around $20.  The Camp Director will post a sign-up sheet Saturday morning so folks can register for a riding time; they can take 15 horse out at a time.  For girls under 8 that don't get to ride, the Camp Director mentioned that they'll typically schedule a "hay ride" Sunday morning.

Consult camp map for activity locators.

At 4pm the Moonridge Animal Park ranger will host a talk and show wild animals

Saturday Night

Nation Camp Fire, hosted by our own War Whooper and Medicine Man. Each tribe should prepare a skit. Camp observatory will be open afterwards, pending weather.
